The primary objectives of an operating system is to provide convenience for the user. It allows the user to perform different tasks easily. It helps the user to run software for solving the problems conveniently. It also allows the programmers to develop software in a convenient environment.
Efficiency:
An operating system manages computer resources in such way that improve the efficiency of the system. Different resources of the computer include processing power, storage and communications.
Ability to Evolve:
The hardware and software technologies are changing rapidly. The operating system must be able to evolve according to these changes. It should allow the user to use the latest technologies in software and hardware without any problems.

Booting:
Booting is a process of starting or restarting the computer. Operating system start the computer to work. It checks the computer and makes it ready to work.
There are two types of booting.
Cold Boot:
When the computer is turned on after it has been power of completely it is called cold boot
.
Warm Boot:
When the computer is restarted, it is called warm boot.
Memory Management:
Memory management is a process of optimizing the use of main memory. RAM is used to store data and instruction temporarily during execution. operating system allocates memory area to different program.
