Express card and USB adapters:
Express card and USB Adapters are smaller than expansion cards. These are used by mobile computer. The user can plug into the slots or ports of outside of the system unit.
Express Card module can be inserted into Express Card slot on a computer or mobile device. Express Card modules and express Card slots are available in two widths of 34 mm and 54 mm known as Express Card/34 and express Card/54 respectively. Express Card /34 module can be used in both Express Card/54 module can only be used with Express Card/54 slots.
The USB adapter can be inserted into USB port on a computer or mobile device. It can be used to connect wireless devices like mouse and keyboards. In this case, the USB adapter is plugged into computer and receives infrared waves from the wireless mouse or keyboard.
Types of Expansion Cards :
Different types of expansion cards are as follows:
Video Card:
A video graphics card is an expansion card that is used to display graphics and videos on the screen. It is also called display adapter, graphics card, video adapter, video board or video controller. The video cards in the past were installed on expansion slots. The modern computers have video hardware integrated on the motherboard called integrated graphics or on board graphics. The integrated graphics hardware uses computer RAM.
The latest video cards include dedicate memory called video memory. Most video card today come with a video memory of 256 MB to 2 GB. These cards are required to run graphics applications and latest video games.
Modern video card provides different ports as follows:
1. DVI ports:
DVI stands for Digital Video Interface. These ports enable digital signals to transmit directly to a computer.
2. HDMI ports:
HDMI stands for High definition Media Interface. HDMI ports are used for high definition TV, Blu ray player or gaming console.
3. Display Port adapters:
It is new style port that connects to digital monitors or projectors. It is an alternative to DVI that also supports HDMI.
4. Sound Card:
A sound card provides connections for the microphone and speaker to produce sound. it input sound through the microphone and converts it into that can be processed by the computer. Most of the computer includes a sound card in the expansive slot or integrated on the motherboard.
5. Network Interface Card (NIC):
A network interface card is an expansive card that used to connect a computer to a network. A network card can be added to an expansion slot. Many motherboard also have integrated NIC cards.
6.Tuner card:
TV tuner card is used to watch television capture video and surf the internet at the same time. it contains TV tuner and video converted that changed TV signal in a form that can be displayed on the monitor.
