Data communication:
Data communication is a process of transferring data electronically from one place to another. Data can be transferred by using different media. Data is a collection of raw facts and figures. It may consist of text , graphics and sound etc. An electromagnetic or light wave used to transmit data from one place to another is called a signal. Propagation of signals across a communication medium is called signaling. Communication of data from one place to another place in the from of signals is called transmission.
The following components are required for successful communication to take place:
Sending Devcies:
A devices that send the massage is called sending devices. It is also called source or transmitter. The sending devices can be a computer fax machine or mobile phone etc. computer is usually used as sending devices in communication system.
Receiving Devices:
A devices that receives the message is called receiving devices. It is also called sink. The receiving devices can be a computer fax machine or mobile phone etc. computer is usually used as sending devices in communication system.
Communication Devices:
Communication Devcies are used to transmit message between sending and receiving devices through communication medium. The sending devices must contain communication devices for communication. Two most commonly used communication devices are modem and network card.
Transmission Medium:
transmission medium is used to carry message from one place to another . It is also called communication channel. The transmission medium can be a physical cable or wireless connection.
