Scanners and reads data or information form a source. This source could be a written document a price tag a graphic image or a photograph. A scanning devices reads the data or information and then converts it into can be processed by the computer.
The types of scanning devices are optical scanner and optical reader.
Optical Scanner
An optical scanner is also known as scanner. it is a light-sensing input device that reads printed text or image and store them in the computer in digital from. The input can be entered into the computer quickly and accurately using the scanner.
The typically scanner scans at a resolution of 300 0r 600 dpi. Professional scanners usually scans at 1200 dpi or more. A higher provides optical character recognitions (OCR) software.

Flatbed Scanner
Flatbed scanner is the most commonly used scanner. it is also called image scanner. it input one page at a time. it works like a photocopy machine. it is generally used at home and office to scan photos book pages and other documents etc.
Sheeted Scanner
A sheeted scanner works similarly to a flatbed scanner but documents are inserted on the top of the scanners like fax machine. this design reduces the scanners cost and the amount of required space. it is also enables automatic feeding. this also prevents the device form scanners bound-book pages or other documents thicker or larger than a sheet of paper.
Handheld Scanner
A handheld Scanner is a portable scanners. it typically can scans only 2 to 5 inches at a time. The scanner is dragged by hand over the image to be scanned. it is very useful to scans magazines newspapers and books.
